Vietnamese rowing sensation – Bonsoy Golden Stars set to make waves at Sydney Championships competition

Events

Sydney, Australia – In a story of Australia – Vietnam sporting collaboration thirty years in the making, Vietnam’s very own rowing team the Bonsoy Golden Stars are making their way to Australia for the upcoming 2023 NSW Rowing Championships at Sydney International Regatta Centre at Castlereagh St Penrith from 10-12 February 2023. What began as a group of amateur rowers who tried to fit in training around family obligations has since developed into a professional sport, with Vietnam receiving the top rowing nation at the Southeast Asian Games, and young Vietnamese in both Vietnam and Australia increasingly inspired to embrace the sport.

Vietnamese Rower and member of the Bonsoy Golden Stars Ms Huệ said: “We are grateful to Bonsoy and our coach Joe for going over and beyond in supporting my teammates and I – the Bonsoy Golden Stars. It is a dream come true to represent Vietnam in Australia and we hope to make all Vietnamese in Australia and Vietnam feel proud and inspired. With the right start in terms of coaching, training and diet, our team has become a force and we are looking forward to the opportunity to compete in Australia and represent our country.”

Bonsoy Golden Stars Coach and Australian representative, Joe Donnelly said: “Good luck to the Bonsoy Golden Stars and thank you to Bonsoy for the financial and other support enabling the team to not only compete to such a high standard, but also to better their education, find fulfilling careers and build strong families. To me, this is more than a sponsorship – it is a story of Australia-Vietnam cooperation. The professionalising of rowing over the last 2 decades is opening up careers for Vietnamese athletes and transforming their lives as well as inspiring next generation Vietnamese athletes. With diet and training in place, I am excited to see what the team delivers at the NSW Rowing Championships.”

Rower Ms Huệ added: “Diet is important for us to stay healthy and compete well. We have introduced Bonsoy products into our daily diet and we are happy with the outcome! Bonsoy Soy Milk makes a nourishing and protein-packed breakfast or snack and the fact it contains nothing artificial is really welcome. We have also incorporated Bonsoy Sparkling Coconut Water to our diet post-training to ensure we are rehydrated quickly – especially in the hotter weather.”

Raphaelle Wilson, Marketing Director at Spiral Foods, parent company of Bonsoy said: “Best of luck to the Bonsoy Golden Stars! This sponsorship is a natural fit because of the team’s commitment to a healthy lifestyle – something we at Bonsoy live and breathe. As athletes, the team knows to get the most out of your body, you’ve got to put the best fuel in. We only use premium-quality, all-natural soybeans and almonds, so every drop is nutritious. Rowing is an inclusive sport which aligns beautifully with Bonsoy’s identity, especially as this sponsorship is bringing together Australians and Vietnamese! Bonsoy has had a unique Vietnamese connection for a while now, with many Vietnamese Australians choosing our beverages – our Bonsoy sparkling coconut water is even manufactured in Vietnam! We hope to continue building connections with Australia’s thriving Vietnamese community beyond this sponsorship.”
